Website Checklist
Loading time: A website should load in less than 10 seconds. Many users are using a 28K or a 56K modem. Studies have shown that 80% of the users leave the website if it has not loaded within 10 seconds.
Graphics and Colors: Graphics such as pictures and flash should be used properly and not excessively. Pictures are a great way to get the point of view across but they should not consume the website. The more graphics a website has the slower it is going to load therefore turning away users that have a slow connection. Remember, good quality content complemented with appropriate graphics will determine whether users visit your website and keep coming back to it!
The right combination of colors must be chosen so that it attracts the attention of the user but also does not make the text unreadable. Bad colors can make text impossible to read and turn users away from your website. For example try reading the following sentence:

Navigation: Users should be able to navigate around the website with ease. This means designing a navigation system that will allow the user to reach their destination in the minimum amount of clicks. Users should not get stuck at a webpage. Often, a primary and a secondary navigation system should be developed.
Searchability: It is essential that a website is configured properly for search engines such as Yahoo, and Google. Aspects such as proper meta tags, dynamic content, popular links, content, and headings often helps increase listing on search engines.
Accessibility: A website should be accessible to as many users as possible. This includes users with different browsers, varying resolutions, and visually impaired users. The final website must accommodate the different needs of various user groups to gain the maximum possible usage and exposure.
Use the above points as a check-list to make sure your website complies.
